Young Social and Political Activists Discuss the Most Important Ideologies

Yerevan—The National Citizens’ Initiative (NCI) today convened an off-the-record roundtable discussion devoted to the ideologies that are widely adopted in the world, in general, and in Armenia, in particular. The discussants examined the ideologies of liberalism, conservatism, and socialism plus national liberalism, national socialism and national conservatism, which are the extremist concepts of those ideologies, and also the latter’s structure and essential values. The roundtable participants also thoroughly looked at the typology of the “ideology” phenomenon.

The event brought together members from the youth organizations of Armenian political parties, NGO representatives, and journalists. NCI activist Hrair Manukian was the moderator of the seminar while NCI coordinator and the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) senior analyst Hovsep Khurshudian as well as head of the Heritage Party’s parliamentary faction Stepan Safarian were the speakers of the roundtable.

The discussants underscored the need for the political forces to follow the ideologies which they have adopted, and examined whether the large cross-section of the body politic is truly informed of the ideologies embraced by the Armenian political forces and to what extent the arrangements, alliances, and unions in today’s political spectrum actually reflect the official value systems and ideologies of the forces that make up those arrangements, alliances, and unions.

The seminar participants also focused on resource-based matter. They explored as to which ideology had in what way manifested itself in a given country, in the case of a given social and state formation in history; and to what degree had the given ideology enabled the domestic resources to more fully and effectively perform for the prosperity of the entire country, the society, and of the individual, who makes up the society.
